Nitty Gritty (Hidden Contact)

Director: Nicholas Kallincos

Band: Hip Hop Maze

Tagline: Hip Hop animation

I haven’t heard much hip-hop from Australia, but I understand it is quite popular and has many fans along with that rap-n-roll kids like to listen to these days. Despite this, I enjoyed the song and liked hearing all the Melbourne references in the lyrics.

The animation style was very unique as it had old style sketch animation with strange drawings that followed the lyrics. It was mixed with surreal live action footage quite effectively and you could watch either one and enjoy the music video.

I also enjoyed the old cassette tapes used in the finale and the man with a paper bag over his head reminded me of TISM for some reason.
