Lucky for Some

This short tells the story of human remains found on the beach and has a poker machine addict and a beach comber being questioned by police and giving their accounts of events. They both involve a lucky gambler, a mysterious watch and a large sum of money.
I really enjoy stop-motion animation as it has loads of character. You can virtually see the animator’s fingerprints in the figures that they are working on and the characters usually come out bumpy and lumpy. While it is not as polished as computer animation, the characters seem a lot more alive. This short reminded me a lot of Ward 13 as it has very memorable characters and scenarios.
I thought the character’s voices were very unique also, which added to the appeal of the short and made it seem more realistic. What I also liked is that this short could have worked just as well as a live action feature due to the strength of the story.
This short may be a bit difficult to find, but I recommend checking it out if it turns up in an animation programme close to you or on TV.Rating: 8/10
